We constantly work towards improving the boys experience in Scouting by continuing to pursue the aims and methods of Scouting. The Scouts have worked very hard to make Troop 897 one of the premier troops in the Midlothian area. Troop 897 meets in the Chapel of Winfree Baptist in Midlothian. We are a dynamic troop that works hard to adhere to the aims of Scouting. Because of this, we are a Scout (boy) run troop with a strong and active outdoor program. The boys truly enjoy working, teaching and growing with each other. We will always strive to help your son have fun and achieve his goals in Scouting. We believe it is important that he experience what Scouting is all about along with the variety of activities, life lessons, and camaraderie and fun the Boy Scouts has to offer.
Who we are:

Troop 897 was formed in 1988. We are a medium-sized troop averaging around 30-40 Scouts. We are strong believers in Scouting’s aims of character development, citizenship training and personal fitness. We strive to achieve these aims using the 8 methods of Scouting: uniforms; adult association; personal growth; advancement; ideals; leadership development; patrols; and outdoor programs. We have an Eagle advancement rate of 27% vs. the national average of 5%.

This is a Scout (boy) run troop. The adults focus on facilitating the Scout’s programs and activities.
