2023 Summer Camps
As you heard at the Troop Meeting, we are again offering TWO Summer Camp opportunities this year. Mrs. Jenny Marshall and I will be taking a group to T Brady Saunders the week of June 25 – July 1, 2023. Mr. Chris Koon is taking a group to Camp Goshen from July 2 – 8. Mr. Koon will be sending information on Goshen. See information below on TBS.
There are two links below to sign up for each camp. Please let me know if you have any questions.
** Interested in a Staff position at TBS this Summer? Attached is the application. You must be 16 by June 1 for a Staff position, or 14 for a Counselor In Training position. Please let me know if you are applying for a Staff position.
-
We register the Scouts and Adults as a Troop, so do not register on your own.
-
Cost is $455 for TBS and $485 for Goshen and includes all Camp fees.
-
The Early Bird special for TBS is $430 if you make the payment to the Troop by March 13.
-
The Early Bird special for Goshen is $455 if you make the payment to the Troop by March 30.
-
These are also the last day to cancel and get a refund.
-
-
Checks should be made out to Troop 897, and we will pay with one check. You can begin bringing payments starting next Monday. We will have a payment schedule next week if you prefer to make installments.
-
First year Scouts will be enrolled in the Trailblazer Program at TBS. This program focuses on skills and rank requirements through First Class. In the afternoons, the Trailblazers work on Merit Badges. We HIGHLY recommend this program.
-
Attached is a list of the TBS Merit Badges that were offered in 2022. The Merit Badge offering will be similar this year. Once the final schedule of Merit Badges is released, we will send that to attendees. We will also need Merit badge selections by March 13.
-
Goshen Merit Badges will be announced soon and sign up for MB is March 30.
-
For those who plan to attend both Summer Camps (our Double Crown), you can arrive later Sunday to Camp Goshen. We realize you need a little time to do laundry. Although, you do not want to arrive too late … there may be a surprise for you.
-
Attached is the BSA Health Form. All Scouts must have this completed to attend Camp (TBS and Goshen).
-
I recommend you prefill all the fields you can (it is an editable pdf). The last page is for your doctor’s office to complete.
-
The health form is good for one year from the date of physical. If your Scout is due for a physical before June 25, please schedule now. If your Scout had a physical within a year (say October), you just need to have the doctor’s office complete the last page.
-
Many offices will print out a copy of immunization record. You can include this as well.
-
Along with two copies of the health form (parts A, B and C), we need two copies of the front and back of your medical insurance card attached to the health form. Note – we want copies, you hold on to the originals.
-
In the past, we have put “All Registered Troop 897 Adults” in the Authorized to transport Scouts section on page 1.
-
-
We are looking for Adults who can join us at Camp for a few days. We like to have at least 4 Adults in Camp. All are welcome; however, you cannot just drop in. Sign up on the same Google sheets (scroll down).

This is just the tip of the iceberg, and there will be much more information coming. To answer the first question – we all sleep on cots in canvas tents on platforms.
Who’s ready to join us for another great week(s) of Summer Camp?
